Transport, Parking and Permits

Buses

Canberra’s public transport system does not service Weston Park effectively and our advice is that you consider carpooling, or hiring a van or minibus for transport to and from Weston Park.

There will be no buses running along Alexandrina Dr or Weston Park Rd for the duration of the event. The closest bus stop is located near the intersection of Schlich and Novar Sts, some two kilometres from the site. The routes servicing this stop include Route 1, which runs every 20 minutes on weekdays, and route 932, which runs hourly on weekends and public holidays.

More information about Canberra's bus network can be found on the Transport ACT web site.

Cars

To get to Weston Park from the northern side of the city, cross the lake at Commonwealth Ave and bear to the left. Take the Flynn Dr exit immediately following the bridge, and follow Flynn Drive around to the left, underneath the bridge and straight down the lake side, past Nara Park, until you get to the roundabout.

On this roundabout, turn right onto Alexandrina Dr, and follow the road. Immediately to your right is Lotus Bay, the Southern Cross Yacht Club and the lakeside home of DBACT. If you are coming to the officials briefing, the club captains briefing or the AusDBF VIP Drinks, you will need to turn right into Mariner Pl to get to the yacht club.

Weston Park, however, is about a five minute trip on this beautiful hillside drive. Take your time and lose yourself in the amazing views – it’s hard to believe you’re in the heart of Canberra! Watch out for kangaroos though, especially early in the morning.

Keep following the road until you get to the T intersection at the end. To your right will be the entrance to Weston Park.

If you are approaching the park from the southern side of the city, you will want to work your way to Hopetoun Circuit, which can be accessed from Adelaide Ave, or Novar St, which can be approached from the Cotter Dr.

Please be advised that Canberra's new tram line, which runs along Northbourne Ave and the Federal Hwy, will be opening to the public on Saturday April 20th, our State v State day. There will be road closures in pace throughout the day, from 4am onwards. If you are staying northside, be aware that these closures may impact your journey to Weston Park. More information about these closures can be found on the Transport ACT Website.

For up to date road closures and other tram-related advisories, we suggest you check the Canberra Metro Facebook Page.

Parking

Car parking areas will be located close to the athlete's village. There will be room for around five hundred vehicles in these lots, which will be managed by volunteers from a local Lions Club. The Lions Club are offering their services to the AusChamps at no charge, however they will be soliciting gold coin donations from paddlers who choose to park in these lots. We ask that you treat these volunteers with the same respect and professionalism as you would an official.

There is plenty of other car parking available in Weston Park, and you are free to park anywhere except in those lots which we have set aside for buses and coaches. Parking outside the Yarralumla Play Station and Railway Café, located immediately adjacent to our vendors village, is also expressly forbidden. We sshall have plenty of signage and volunteers to ensure you don't get lost.

In the event that the parking lots fill up, we have an ‘overflow’ parking area for cars located right next to the entrance to the park. It’s about a ten minute walk to the athletes village.

Mini Buses / Coaches / Vans

There will be dedicated coach / minibus parking available. We are requesting that these vehicles proceed to the signposted drop off point to unload; you will not be permitted to run on the dirt roads which lead to the VIP parking. Follow the signage and you’ll be right!

The minibus parking zone is only a five minute walk away from the Vendor's Village.

Parking Permits

The area marked 'VIP' on the map above is reserved for VIPs, Officials, Volunteers and disabled parking. It will operate on a permit system.

Disabled parkers must present their valid disability parking permit to gain access. We will not be granting exemptions to anyone who forgets to bring their permit with them.

All other volunteers, officials, dignitaries and VIPs will had their passes emailed to them on Wednesday 10th April. Please make sure that you either print your parking permit in advance, or you are able to display the permit on your smartphone to the parking attendant. Our attendants have been instructed to turn away anybody who arrives without a pass.

Please note that your permit is valid only on those days where you will be officiating or volunteering.

There is room in the VIP parking lot for about 120 vehicles, and it is first come first serve. Holding a permit entitles you to be able to park in the VIP lot, but it does not guarantee you a spot.
